Check eligibility before writing

Read the organization’s original vacancy notice and application instructions. Record the deadline and time zone, required experience, education, language requirements, duty station and any nationality or work-authorization restrictions.

Distinguish mandatory requirements from desirable experience. If an important requirement is unclear, use the employer’s official guidance rather than assuming that a close match is enough. BARUGA’s matching tools support your assessment; the employer decides eligibility.

Build a requirement-to-evidence list

For each major responsibility, identify a real example from your experience. Record the context, your personal contribution and what changed. This produces a more useful starting point than rewriting every sentence of a general resume (CV).

  • Requirement: what the vacancy asks you to do.
  • Evidence: a project or situation where you did relevant work.
  • Contribution: what you personally led, coordinated or delivered.
  • Result: a verifiable change, output or lesson.
  • Source: records or a referee that could substantiate the claim.

Use numbers with a clear meaning

Quantify scale where it helps: a portfolio value, number of partners, time period or delivery improvement. Explain what the figure represents and what responsibility you held.

Do not turn a programme’s total budget into a claim that you personally raised or managed every dollar. Where an achievement was collective, describe your role accurately. Replace invented precision with a clear qualitative result when reliable figures are unavailable.

Make the motivation statement specific

Connect the organization’s needs to two or three strong examples from your experience. Explain the value you could bring to the role and why this particular assignment fits. Avoid repeating the entire resume (CV).

Answer screening questions directly and respect each word limit. Keep job titles, dates, language levels and figures consistent across your resume (CV) and online profile. The employer’s required application form takes precedence over a generic document format.

Do a final submission review

Opportunity Intelligence can help organize your evidence and draft application materials. Review all facts and the final version yourself. BARUGA does not submit an application merely because a draft has been generated, and it cannot guarantee selection.

  • Use the current vacancy reference and correct organization name.
  • Check that every required question and attachment is complete.
  • Open each attachment and confirm it is the intended version.
  • Remove tracked changes, drafting notes and unsupported claims.
  • Check referee details and obtain permission before sharing them.
  • Submit through the official channel and retain the confirmation.
